~*EXCERPT*~

A ONCE UPON A TIME LOVE

“Pass me my cloak.”
Sylas held it by the shoulders and draped it over her. There was a moment where her fingers brushed his as she tied the cloak’s strings at her collar. Sylas’s hands came to rest upon her shoulders, smoothing the creases of the velvety blue. The girl took in a sharp breath, but not of displeasure. He stepped closer to her, his tall, lean form curving into the slope of her back. Sylas lowered his head to her ear, allowing his lips to trail down her neck. The way she smelled of of wild earth and mountain bluebells intoxicated him. “Laittie…”
She turned in his arms, staring into his eyes. He caressed her cheek. Her golden curls cascaded over his skin. She took in another sharp breath as he lowered his mouth to hers. “I think I’m falling for you,” he whispered.
“We shouldn’t do this.” Her eyes fluttered shut, lips parting in her whisper. “You’re promised to another.”
His voice was low. His thumb brushed over her lower lip. “What’s that word you keep calling me?”
“Reckless,” she said breathlessly.
Sylas slid his arms around her waist, pulling her against him, making her aware of what he felt in her presence. “Let me be reckless for one more night.”
“Is that all you want? A reckless kind of love.”
“No. I want a kind of love that I’ll remember the rest of my days. I want a once upon a time love.”
Laittie reached for his collar, her face squeezing with a semi-pained expression. “I told you not to fall in love with me.”
Sylas smiled. “I told you I don’t make promises I don’t intend to keep.”
